Recently I made a caravan cake and thought I should share the progress shots with you.
The cake started from 10′ square, halved then filled and stacked. I prefer to carve it once it is all filled so the shape doesn’t distort. I printed a profile of the caravan and used this as guide for carving. I made the caravan taller as I wanted to give the customer more cake. It was ganached and covered and while icing was still soft I added all the extra details except for the writing and logos. Hope you like this little step by step pictorial :)
Today i wanted to share the Racing Car Tutorial with you. The car cake topper is about 8” long and I used Rice Krispies treat bars. Yes, I cheated lol. For small items like that i love to use the bars as they are already made and less messy. You just squash into a shape and in this case i didn’t even squash them. I attached the pieces I cut with fondant and let dry so it doesn’t fall apart. That way they are less bumpy too but still covered twice. Right let’s get to the point and post the tutorial pohotos. Hope this helps somebody :) and instead of a seat you can always add a little head as driver. Also wanted to point out that RKTĀ shape of the car can be used for carved 3D car cake :)
Racing Car Tutorial
Cut and shape the RKT
Roll some sugarpaste, carefully place topper on top and cut around
Make the front wheels
Press a circle in to indent
Cut two little square pieces for the front wheels
Glue together and insert a toothpick
Start on the back wheels, they are bigger
shape as before
No square pieces for them. Insert the toothpick straingh into the wheels
Roll sugarpaste to cover for 1st time
cover
cut along the edge and remove excess
Brush with water
Roll your final colour sugarpaste
cover
Mark the lines
Cut a piece for behind the seat
Make a seat
Insert small toothpick for the Steering wheel
Make the steering wheel. It is just a circle
Place a rectangle black piece at the back
add a triangle piece
And the final piece infront of the triangle, it is like pyramid shape
I have no idea what these are called but i will call them wings. Cut two rectangles but leave the ends a bit thicker and then draw a line
Glue to the topper
Cut white circles for the wheels
Paint with silver inside the wheels
Paint the steering wheel. You have to add few coats. This was my first. Insert back wheels
Do the same with frnt wheels and Insert them too
Do the accessorries, cut yellow triangle, cut circle towards the end and insert it inbetween
Add stripes
More stripes ,horizontal this time
Cut rectangle and isert to the back
Add the wing on top and that is where you can add the name
Final touches, name, number, some lines. I used edible pens for these
